Around town you'll find stony uplands with limestone close to the surface, and lower creek terraces with deeper loamy clay. They need different handling. On the rock we drill and set posts in concrete. In the clay, depth and concrete matter even more, because clay swells and shrinks with moisture and will push a shallow post out of line.

On ranch land, the corners and braces carry the whole fence. We set them solid first, then stretch the wire, so a long run stays tight for years instead of sagging after one season.
