Down on the creek terraces it's loamy clay that swells and shrinks with the weather. A post set too shallow in either one will lean within a few seasons.

## Posts Set in Limestone, Boards Hung Straight

A cedar privacy fence is only as good as what's holding it up. We drill post holes into the rock when that's what's down there, set every post in concrete, and pull a string line so the fence runs straight. On slopes we step or rack the panels to follow the ground. Then the rails, kickboard and pickets go on with galvanized fasteners, in 6 ft or 8 ft, standard, board-on-board, horizontal or cap-and-trim.
